Going to be in the Adirondacks this weekend?
You’ll want to check out the concert series Piano by Nature, hosted by the historic Hand House in Elizabethtown (NY), as it’s presenting two performances of Ricochet Duo’s The Woodswoman Project!
With The Woodswoman Project, Ricochet Duo pays tribute to one of the Adirondack’s most treasured personalities, Anne LaBastille and her tireless work as an international environmentalist, author, and icon for women by way of weaving together music, sounds, images, and light.
On Saturday (only) at 5:30 pm, there will be a special pre-concert talk by Leslie Surprenant—a long-time friend of Anne LaBastille’s as well as the executrix of the LaBastille Estate, which will include rare photos and memorabilia from Anne’s travels, work, and life. It will provide a fascinating look into Anne’s history and background.
The Woodswoman Project‘s repertoire has been selected to celebrate and focus on four tenets of LaBastille’s work:
water … woods … birds … silence
Included in the program for the Piano by Nature performances are two new compositions, written for piano and marimba, were commissioned by Ricochet Duo for The Woodswoman Project:
- Hilary Tann — Solstice
- Doug Opel — Playtime with Elvis and Krispy
The multimedia program also includes stunning photography from world-class, regional photographers Mark Bowie, Shaun Heffernan, and Carl Hielmann II that are paired with specific musical works.
A photo album of select photos from Anne’s personal collection that has been provided to Ricochet Duo for this program by the Anne LaBastille Estate will also be shared via a slide show.
